Technical SEO Strategist · Published Author · Founder, SEO Gurus
Erwee Coetzee
13+ years of hands-on SEO experience. Published author. Founder of SEO Gurus. I help businesses build durable visibility through technical accuracy, entity-first optimisation, and a boutique SEO model designed for trust-critical, high-value search markets.
Based in Cape Town, South Africa · Working with businesses locally, nationally, and internationally
What I Do
I help businesses increase qualified organic visibility by diagnosing technical blockers, aligning pages to search intent, strengthening entity clarity, and building topical authority that compounds over time. The focus is durable search trust, not short-term ranking theatre.
How I Work
Every recommendation is grounded in Search Console evidence, crawl diagnostics, SERP analysis, competitor mapping, and entity-signal review. The work is prioritised by impact and dependency so the highest-leverage actions happen first and the roadmap stays commercially relevant.
Boutique Model
SEO Gurus is positioned as a boutique consultancy, not a volume-driven agency. That means selective engagements, direct strategist involvement, framework-led execution, and no handoff of critical thinking to junior fulfilment layers after the sale.
Published Books on SEO & Search Strategy
Both titles are available on Amazon Kindle. They reflect the same boutique positioning behind SEO Gurus: depth over volume, trust over shortcuts, and strategy built for the current search environment.

About Erwee Coetzee
I’m the founder of SEO Gurus and the author of two books on modern search strategy. I work hands-on with businesses that want search visibility they can rely on, built on technical accuracy, semantic clarity, entity reinforcement, and credibility signals that search engines can interpret and trust.
I’ve been working in SEO since 2012. Over those 13+ years I’ve developed an approach that combines deep technical diagnostics, entity-based optimisation, and content architecture. Those are the pillars behind the boutique pivot at SEO Gurus: fewer engagements, higher strategic depth, direct founder involvement, and delivery designed for high-trust markets rather than broad-volume fulfilment.
My academic background includes a BCom in Intrapreneurial Management from the University of Johannesburg, which shapes how I approach SEO. I treat it as a business growth discipline with commercial consequences, not as a loose collection of disconnected tactics.
If you’ve been burned by vague SEO promises, my model is deliberately direct. I show what is broken, what matters most, what should happen first, and what outcomes are realistically being pursued. The boutique strategy angle is simple: tighter fit, higher accountability, deeper involvement, better strategic coherence.
Specialties
- Entity SEO: building machine-recognisable brand entities through structured data, corroboration signals, semantic architecture, Knowledge Graph reinforcement, and author identity systems.
- Technical SEO: crawl and indexation strategy, site architecture, Core Web Vitals optimisation, structured data implementation, canonical control, and duplication management.
- On-Page SEO: intent mapping, content improvement, internal linking architecture, entity coverage, and SEO copywriting standards.
- Local SEO: Google Business Profile optimisation, local landing pages, citation management, review strategy, and service-area targeting.
- eCommerce SEO: category and product architecture, faceted navigation handling, schema implementation, merchandising alignment, and scalable organic growth systems.
What You Get Working With Me
- Clarity: a prioritised roadmap with dependencies, effort levels, and expected impact at each phase.
- Proof: crawl data, Search Console evidence, SERP analysis notes, and before-and-after baselines wherever possible.
- Direct strategist involvement: the thinking is not separated from the delivery. Critical analysis stays with the person shaping the engagement.
- Selective engagement model: the boutique pivot means strategic fit matters. Work is taken on where depth, relevance, and measurable outcomes justify direct involvement.
- Transparent reporting: rankings are a proxy; the real focus is qualified traffic, leads, and commercial outcomes.

My SEO Process
1. Diagnose
Technical crawl, Search Console review, and SERP analysis to surface indexation gaps, architecture issues, entity clarity problems, and credibility deficiencies that cap organic visibility.
2. Prioritise
Issues scored by impact versus effort so Phase 1 focuses on the highest-leverage fixes. The boutique pivot depends on disciplined prioritisation, not broad activity for its own sake.
3. Implement
Content improvements, technical changes, internal linking refinements, structured data, and authority development, all aligned to a measurable plan with commercial objectives at the centre.
4. Prove & Iterate
Outcomes are monitored, pages refined, and topical coverage expanded based on evidence. The boutique model requires proof, accountability, and continuous refinement.
Selected Client Work
The following are real client engagements. Results represent organic ranking movements in competitive South African and international search markets, achieved through technical remediation, intent alignment, entity optimisation, and structured authority building rather than paid placement or short-term manipulation.
Pace Group — Automotive Rental & Leasing
Worked directly with founder Grenville Salmon on SEO strategy across three properties: pacecarrental.co.za, samotorlease.co.za, and cometcar.com. Scope covered technical remediation, crawl and indexation architecture, intent alignment for rental and leasing queries, on-page optimisation, and internal linking restructure.
Result: All three properties moved from outside page five to top-tier positions for competitive car rental and vehicle leasing keywords in the South African market.
MDSA — Metal Detectors South Africa
Led SEO improvements for metal-detectors.co.za across product and category architecture, transactional keyword strategy, on-page optimisation, and technical clean-up. The site moved from deep pagination into top 3 positions for highly competitive commercial metal detector queries in South Africa.
Olight South Africa — Tactical Lighting
SEO engagement targeting competitive flashlight and tactical product keywords. Focus areas included intent-based on-page optimisation, structural refinement, and authority reinforcement, resulting in top-tier positioning for core commercial terms.
Gamo South Africa — Air Rifles
Category-level SEO targeting, product-level optimisation, structured internal linking, and technical performance improvements. The site achieved top 3 rankings for competitive transactional air rifle keywords in the South African market.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. Search engines control rankings, not SEO providers. Anyone guaranteeing specific positions is misrepresenting how search works. What I do guarantee is disciplined analysis, technically sound implementation, direct strategic involvement, and transparent reporting tied to commercial outcomes.
How long does SEO take to show results?
Technical fixes can show early movement within weeks. Durable growth typically requires three to six months of consistent execution. Timelines vary by competition level, site history, implementation speed, and existing authority.
What industries do you work with?
Service businesses, local providers, specialist brands, and ecommerce stores in South Africa and internationally. The boutique model is best suited to organisations that need strategic depth, technical seriousness, and trust-led positioning.
What makes your approach different?
I combine technical SEO depth with entity-based optimisation and boutique delivery discipline. That means fewer vague promises, more direct accountability, and a stronger focus on what search engines can actually crawl, interpret, index, and trust. It is the same strategic angle documented in my books and expressed through the SEO Gurus boutique pivot.
Do you work with businesses outside South Africa?
Yes. While much of my direct work has been in the South African market, the technical SEO and entity optimisation methodology applies internationally. I work remotely where the project scope, market fit, and strategic requirements align.
